Wie das Projekt begann: Ich hatte schon immer ein großes Herz für Kinder und mein Traum war es von Kindertagen an später einmal mit Kindern zu arbeiten und sie fürs Leben zu stärken.
So errichtete ich im Jahr 2005 einen kleinen Kindergarten in meinem Haus. Über die Jahre wuchs die Zahl der zu betreuenden Schützlinge auf ca. 40 Kinder an.
Der Kindergarten befindet sich in einer ärmeren Wohngegend außerhalb von Windhoek. Die meisten Eltern haben nicht die nötigen finanziellen Mittel, um ihre Kinder mit nahrhaften Mahlzeiten zu versorgen. Mit der Hilfe von CAN e.V. können wir in beiden Kindergärten die Kinder mit einer warmen, ausgewogenen Mahlzeit am Tag versorgen.
Persönliche Gründe, die Gemeinschaft zu unterstützen: Als Mutter und aktives Mitglied in der Gemeinde, sehe und verstehe ich die Schwierigkeiten vieler Eltern für die Versorgung ihrer Kinder aufzukommen.
Selbst aufgewachsen in einer der ärmeren Nachbarschaften, habe ich das Bedürfnis meinen Teil für die Gemeinschaft beizutragen, indem ich mich für die Bildung der Kinder einsetze.
Mein Alltag: Unter der Woche stehe ich gegen 5 Uhr morgens auf um mein Pflegekind und Enkelkind zu begleiten, sich für die Schule fertig zu machen. Ab 6 Uhr begrüße ich dann gemeinsam mit meinen Mitarbeiterinnen die ersten Kindergartenkinder. Von 8 bis 12 Uhr finden Lehreinheiten statt. Diese beinhalten unter anderem singen, spielen, tanzen, basteln und malen. Danach gibt es ein frisch zubereitetes Mittagessen.
Nachdem Mittagessen gilt für alle Kinder Mittagsruhe. Zwischen 15 und 18 Uhr finden noch einmal Lehr- und Spieleinheiten statt. Danach werden die Kinder nach und nach von ihren Eltern abgeholt. Dies dauert oft lange, da einige Eltern zu Fuß von ihrer Arbeitsstelle kommen. Sind alle Kinder abgeholt räumen wir gemeinsam auf und bereiten Dinge für den nächsten Tag vor.
Den Tag beenden wir mit einem gemeinsamen Abendessen und einer Tasse Tee.
Mein größter Wunsch für die Kinder/Leute: Der größte Wunsch für die Kinder ist es, dass sie zu verantwortungsbewussten und unabhängigen Erwachsenen heranwachsen, die ebenfalls den Willen haben ihr soziales Umfeld zu unterstützen. Zudem sollen aus ihnen gebildete, vorwärts gerichtete Menschen werden, die Namibia sowie den ganzen afrikanischen Kontinent in eine vielversprechende Richtung weisen.
Pläne für die Zukunft des Projekts: Die Kinder – und damit auf lange Sicht auch die Gesellschaft – weiterhin durch grundlegende Bildung im Kindergarten und einer gesunden Mahlzeit in ihrer Entwicklung zu stärken.
Freizeit: Zeit mit den Enkelkindern verbringen, afrikanische Filme schauen, die Herero-Gemeinde nördlich von Omaruru besuchen und die Bibel lesen.

How I got to the project: I always had a special place in my heart for children from a young age and my dream was to be able to work with young children by empowering them in any way possible.
My passion for children led to me opening up a small Kindergarten at home in 2005. I started with 3 children which the number grew to over 40 children.
I live in one of the low-income neighbourhoods in Windhoek, whereby most of the parents are unemployed and cannot afford to feed their precious children with a nutritional meal. With the Assistance and help of CAN we build a shelter and started a feeding program at the kindergartens both in Havana and in Goreangab.
My personal reasons why I support the community: Being a mother and an active member of the community made me understand how difficult it can be for a parent not being able to provide food or shelter to his/her children.
Food insecurity is of major concern in Sub-Saharan Africa especially in Namibia. Growing up and living in a low income neighbourhood made me realise that I can help and contribute to my community and society at large by empowering the children with basic education and providing them with a meal with the help of CAN. I believe every child has right to education, to be loved, to be nurtured, to be well fed and to have a shelter regardless of his social and economic status.
How my everyday life looks like: On a normal day I wake up at 5 am in order to prepare my foster child and grandchild for school, after that around 6am I start welcoming the kindergarten children and our daily activities/ lessons begin at 8 am till 12 pm. The activities entails playing, singing, dancing, doing arts and crafts, storytelling, cooking and preparing lunch and breakfast for the children with the assistance of my 2 lovely colleagues.
After 12 pm the children take a small nap and around 3 pm we feed them and keep the busy with educational activities till 6pm, and on some days later than 6pm. Some parents work very far and it take long time to commute from their work place. Well after that we do a little bit of cleaning and tidying up for the next day.
From around 7:00 pm I spend time with my family (grandchildren and children) and we prepare dinner and a lovely cup of tea to end the day on a good note.
That is my biggest wish for the kids/people I help: Biggest wish for the children is for them to be strong, responsible and independent adults that will be willing to assist and help their respective communities in any way possible. In addition to this to be educated leaders that will be able to drive our country and the entire African Continent in a positive prosperous direction.
These are my plans for the future of the project: To continue empowering the children by providing them with basic education at the kindergartens and a nutritional meal to the children and community at large in the long run with the help and assistance of CAN.
What I like doing in free time: Spending time with my grandchildren, watching TV (especially African movies), travelling to the village and reading the bible.
